Áine Fitzgerald, MA LICSWA

“...I will provide a compassionate, shame-free space for you to reach your goals...”

Hi! My name is Áine and I'm glad you dropped by to find out more about me and my approach to helping you heal. Mental wellness is not about changing who you are or reaching a place where you have it all figured out. I believe that mental wellness is about developing self-trust and self-compassion so you can sit mindfully with yourself through any storm. Each of us already has the innate wisdom we need to find a meaningful path, but various factors such as low self-esteem, social conditioning, and trauma can make it hard to trust ourselves. Many of us have denied parts of our true selves in order to feel accepted or cope with parts of life, but prolonged internal discrepancies and dissociation can lead to a lack of fulfillment and even mental illness. This is where I come in. As your therapist, I will help you identify, process, and eventually integrate the feelings, truths, and needs you have subconsciously pushed into the shadows.

I believe that as you begin to authentically connect with your whole self through our work together, you will find that you can begin to trust your own wisdom, feel a sense of peace and purpose, and increase your sense of joy and belonging in your daily life.

Education & Training

I received my Master's in Social Work from California State University, East Bay.

I have experience walking with clients through various stages of life, including addiction, grief and loss, depression/anxiety, childhood neglect/trauma, and navigating difficult relationships. You are in control of your own journey and get to set your own goals – I will provide a compassionate, shame-free space for you to reach your goals in the way that works best for you.

I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker Associate (SC61471285).

Treatment & Philosophical Approach

Because you are the expert in your life, I draw from a variety of modalities depending on your unique needs and goals, including Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and harm reduction. In our work together I may also incorporate somatic awareness techniques, mindfulness and grounding, and inner child/inner critic parts work. I also draw from transpersonal therapy to assist clients who want to explore a deeper connection with spirit.

I know that wounds that were created in relationship need to be healed in relationship and I provide a safe therapeutic container to do that work using a framework grounded in attachment theory. We may even do some coloring together or other arts and crafts as we talk if you want!
